Bête Noire

January 22, 2018

One "trend" that I decided early on in life that I would never partake in is fur, as I associated all fur-wearers with Cruella de Vil. Over the years, though, my anti-fur stance softened, and I found myself slowly gravitating toward pieces with fur-trimmed hoods, and eventually graduated into larger fur items like stoles.

My resistance finally collapsed with the purchase of this (faux) fur coat from Free People. But it is so much more than a coat: it confers an illusion of power (which is arguably better than real power). One of my favorite Hyperbole and a Half posts--about four-year-old Allie and her transformation into a dinosaur--chronicles this descent well. In this oversized coat, I felt like a full-fledged grizzly.
Free People Classic Fur Coat (size XS; sold out) || Kate Spade Earmuff with Satin Bow || J. Crew Relaxed Wool Turtleneck With Rib Trim (size XXS; past season) || Tiered Pearl Necklace || Salvatore Ferragamo Ginny Shoulder Bag (reviewed here) || H&M Faux Leather Pants (past season) || Marc Fisher Aprille High Heel Dress Booties (past season)
Sadly, this coat sold out at full-price, shortly after I received my order. I will be sure to update this post if it gets restocked in the future.

Here are some other fur coats that look promising: (I ordered the Eaves Gold Rush Faux Fur Coat):
