Review: J. Crew Signet Bag vs. Signet Flap Bag

September 27, 2017

I reviewed J. Crew's Signet Bag last fall here, and want to share some comparison photos of it with the new Signet Flap Bag (which J. Crew advertises as Signet 2.0).
Left: Signet Flap Bag with Printed Strap in Italian Leather in "Sun" || Right: Signet Bag in Italian Leather in "Dark Peony"
These two styles are similar in numerous ways: in dimension (the Signet measures 6-1/8"T x 8-3/8" W while the Signet Flap measures 6"T x 8-3/4" W); in material (both are constructed from the same supple napa leather); in design (one main compartment with one slip pocket and one zippered pocket on either interior wall; one slip pocket in the back); and in detail (same hardware and key fob and lock).
The biggest/only noticeable difference between the two is the addition of a flap on the Signet Flap, which protects the main compartment and allows for a front slip pocket.

Both of these bags are perfect for hands-free activities like shopping and sightseeing. They hold a reasonable amount of items that you might need for shorter outings. I generally throw my my phone, glasses and sunglasses, keys, a small cosmetics pouch, and a full-sized wallet into the Signet.

J. Crew also sells accessories for these bags, like coin purses, pom-poms, and the striped detachable straps that I picked up some time ago.
J. Crew is currently running a 30% off sale (use code SHOPFAST at checkout). Shipping is also free on all orders today.

I ordered the 2007 Italian Stadium-Cloth Wool Toggle Coat, which to my surprise is already on sale in all four colors. I missed it during its original release so am excited it's been brought back with updates.
More picks: Academy Loafers in Leather, Sweater with Ruffle Sleeves, Gingham car coat, The 2008 Andover Peacoat in Italian Wool, Gingham One-Shoulder Ruffle Top, Button-Front Puff-Sleeve Top, Lady Jacket with Fringe Hem, Tie-Waist Short with Bees, and Field Trench Coat.

Happy shopping!
