Satin Dress

June 01, 2017

D&G in the mid to late aughts was what my sartorial dreams are made of. There is one show in particular (the Fall 2009 collection) that I revisit from time to time to gush over. The satin dress with velvet straps from this post is one of a few D&G pieces that I picked up from around that time, and it's everything I enjoyed about D&G.

D&G, Dolce & Gabbana's diffusion line (which folded in 2011), married the outwardly sexual sensibility of its primary collection with sweet notes meant to attract a younger audience: lampshade mini skirts, frilly lace pieces, flamboyant bow details, artful print and texture mixing, and dramatic puff sleeves sprinkled every collection. Sometimes I wonder if my style evolution ended when the line was discontinued, as I remain hopelessly devoted to the very elements that shaped D&G. With its death, I may never know the answer to this question. I suppose I'll just continue down this path until something more compelling comes along.

But wait, I now have scallops in my repertoire. That's progress, right?!
