Lingerie-inspired (+ ASOS Mini Slip Dress with Eyelash Lace Detail)

June 10, 2016

I have always had a soft spot for lingerie-inspired pieces (I still own these years-old D&G corset and bustier dresses), and am thrilled that it's a key trend for spring. One way to mitigate their suggestive undertone is to pair them with superficially dissimilar items, like chunky knits, delicate tulle, or printed materials.

My rules of thumb for adapting these pieces for daytime wear are 1) minimize skin exposure and 2) integrate different materials for visual interest. And (this should be self-evident) the lingerie-inspired trend is best saved for the evening or weekend.

My best find in the category recently is this ASOS Mini Slip Dress with Eyelash Lace Detail (fits TTS. For those my size, I am wearing size 0 in this post; without a belt the dress is knee-length on me). It is machine washable and constructed out of hammered satin (which is textured through embossing and more dull than smooth satin), making it slightly less nightgown-like. I look forward to wearing it this fall with an oversized cardigan and ankle booties.

The Stecy sandals seen in this post (and reviewed here) are currently on sale at Amazon in a number of colors, including "Blush Patent," which is 64% off in all sizes.
