Why I Run

May 16, 2015

In the ultra-wired world in which we live, I find it necessary to consciously unplug in order to reflect. Running is a welcomed break from gadget dependency and often the only time in my day when I am not tethered to my web-enabled network.

I liken running to reading, which are both experiences best enjoyed in private, but occasional communal activities, like a race or a book club, are fun reminders that even solitary activities can be shared.
It's been years since I ran competitively; I now mainly enjoy running in costumed races with friends and the best part of "training" is keeping each other motivated with silly recaps.

For those of you who live in or near San Francisco, the 12K Bay to Breakers race is one of the oldest and most scenic of its kind. The race starts a few blocks from the Embarcadero and takes runners west through the Golden Gate city with a breezy (and wet!) finish at Ocean Beach.
