Spring Shoes: Converse Chuck Taylor® All Star Shoreline Sneakers Review

April 26, 2014

I bought these Converse "sneakers" earlier in the year and couldn't be more pleased with them except...

I always refer to them as "sneakers" in quotes because they are structurally more ballet-flat than athletic-shoe. I've had several painful experiences in which I leapt from tall structures (don't ask why) expecting a soft landing, only to regret immediately not making a more prudent descent.

The rubber sole offers sufficient support for walking but is ill-suited for wall scaling and building hopping.

Most reviews recommend sizing down in Converse sneakers; while I could've gone down half a size in length, my average-to-wide feet would probably find the width too narrow in a smaller size.

Aside from being fairly comfortable, these shoes are slip-on (the laces are decorative) and have an elastic pull tab at the heel for ease of wearing.

Converse sneakers in "classic" colors (white, navy, red, and black) and styles (High-Top, Low-Top, Shoreline) rarely go on sale at the end of a season but are included in most store-wide events. I bought mine for 20% off during a Famous Footwear sale but you can look for similar discounts at Bloomingdale's, DSW, and Macy's.
Have a great weekend, all!

  1. I've been wanting to buy a pair of Converse for the longest time but I can't decide on a style or color! May I ask, what kind of socks are you wearing with yours (if any)? I have this thing about my socks showing but can't see myself going sockless either.

    1. I was not wearing socks here but there are no-show socks/liners out there that are low-cut enough that they would work with Converse slip on's. Will share a few options in another post or respond to this comment once I compile a list. :)

  2. I actually saw these on sale (exact same, white shorelines) for $20 in a variety of sizes at JC Penney a couple months back! Decided I wanted the regular white converse, but am teeming with regret after reading your post!

  3. I have the same question as Rachel. Are you wearing any socks? I'm still searching for the "perfect sockless" sock.

    1. Hi there,
I was not wearing socks here but there are a number of sock liners that are low-cut enough to be worn with ballet flats and Converse low-tops. I'll put together a list of contenders and share them soon. :)

    I really like the look.

I think converse are designed to wear w/o socks. Even the look is more chick. There is no room for socks, they look weird.

Keep it up. Do you often wear them without socks? They look cute.
