Brocade Dress and Trench Coat

March 15, 2014

One of the unexpected holiday gifts I received last year came from Ping, who possesses exceptional sewing and pattern-making skills (I had the pleasure of trying on two of her unique creations last fall when I visited SF).

This brocade dress is impeccably made and a few friends mistook it for the work of European couturiers (I don't blame them, the precision and care she took to make the dress is astonishing).
Brocade Dress, a gift from super talented Ping | Burberry London Westland Trench | Marc by Marc Jacobs Rose Gold Watch | Anna Dello Russo for H&M Necklace (similar) | Chanel Westminster Flap | Zara Block Heel Leather Court Shoe (similar)
As someone who can barely sew on a button, I have a special appreciation for garment construction though I don't fully comprehend the conceptual genius behind every stitch, the type and position of the seams, the choice of lining, and the placement of darts.

I do know that when done right, as this dress was, clothing can have transformative powers.
