Dot & Red (+ Massimo Dutti Shoes Reviews)

March 07, 2013

Massimo Dutti, the more sophisticated if slightly reserved older sister of Zara, shares Zara's clean lines but is more expensive (I suspect because of better construction). The first MD store in the U.S. opened last October but I am already a convert.

J. Crew Tippi Sweater in Swiss Dot (sold out) | H&M Denim Shirt (similar) | Zara Coat with Gathered Shoulder and Metallic Button | Ann Taylor Modern Cropped Pants (sold out) | Massimo Dutti Nappa Leather Court Shoe (similar but expensive) | See by Chloe Poya Satchel (sold out)
I finally placed my first orders - MD offers free shipping and free return shipping, like Zara -  in January, a few weeks into their winter sale. I ordered a few pairs of "court" shoes in various colors and materials to compare.

So, first things first, sizing. Zara and Massimo Dutti pumps fit similarly; I normally wear size 7 in pumps with a pointed toe and fit both sizes 37/6.5 (nappa) and 38/7.5 (patent) - European half sizes are not available - in MD pumps. The patent leather pumps feel about half a size small compared to nappa leather pumps so size up for patent leather.

* Note that I have average-to-wide feet so if you have narrow feet you may not need to size up.
The shoes are all-leather, reasonably priced and if you can buy them on sale - like I did - they are worth every penny and more. The only shoes I kept from my orders are a pair of tan pumps in nappa leather but I would've kept a pair of patent black ones if my correct size were still available.
On the topic of comfort: At 3.5 inches, the shoes are of a manageable height for women who routinely wear heels. The soles are leather, sanded, and non-slip, unlike some Zara pumps that I've tried.

Some pairs come with special boxes but the court shoes all come standard with dust bags which I thought was a nice touch.
Have you ordered from Massimo Dutti?
