OOTD & ABS by Allen Schwartz Silk Organza Flouncy Bow Front Dress

I had been on a frantic search for a crochet skirt after seeing it on several of my favorite bloggers but didn't find one that was for me until recently. I ordered this Christina Skirt from Abercrombie & Fitch and fell in love. The 00 fits very generously for A&F (if I didn't know better I would say it's closer to a size 0 or 2) but the belt kept it on my waist so I am very pleased with it.

I also bought cocktail dresses for the first time in several months because this deal is simply too good to pass up! I had been coveting this ABS by Allen Schwartz Organza Dress with a Bow (inspired by this Valentino beauty) for several months now but couldn't see myself spending $300 on a dress that may never see the light of day. However, Smartbargains is having a fire sale on some clothing and accessories and previously discounted items were further discounted by 60%. So I bought this dress in light blue for cheap (think $40+shipping cheap!).

It's available in an array of colors through other e-tailers but not as well discounted. Here it is in Gunmetal, Teal, Black, Red, Polka Dot, Ivory, Powder Blue, Off White, and Peach.

OOTD & H&M Fitting Room Reviews

I've worn this button down from J. Crew everyday this week to work and no one has noticed or commented. I like to think it's because I've worn it in creative ways but I am pretty sure people just don't care one way or another.

And I found some pictures that bf snapped for me a few weeks ago when I was pondering the following pieces, I believe they are still in stores.

Tan Trench with Flared Skirt - 49.95 or $59.95 - sz2. I originally brought this home but have since returned it because I really want a workhorse trench that won't fall apart after two seasons. Plus, I already have another H&M trench that is working well for the interim.
Left: Silky Polyester Blouse with Pink Trim - $24.95? Wearing the size 4 here and it's a bit roomy. Was going to hunt down the size 2 but ultimately decided against it.

Right: Divided Cropped Lace Top - sz 2 - $14.95? (it's been a while so I can't remember the price). Sort of cute but not very versatile and somewhat see through.

When in Doubt, Go With Pink (Hunter Original Tall Rainboot)

Gilt Groupe had a sale on Hunter Rainboots earlier this month and I couldn't resist browsing the sale.

The kicker was: what color?! So I quickly, as all seasoned sample sale shoppers would do, added as many colors of the boots in my size as I could to the cart and took my time to decide.
After a long deliberation (15 minutes), I still wasn't any closer to a final choice so I went with what is safest to me: pink.
On the boots' inaugural trip to see the outside world, I took them to Wendy's for some late night snacks.

OOTD & RVCA I Wanna Be A Cowboy Belt

It's been several months since I've come out of Abercrombie & Fitch a successful shopper. First, I've outgrown the brand's demographic and second, I've tried to curtail purchasing casual pieces from "junior" brands.

I have, however, been keeping a close watch on A&F because of some of their new offerings. I enjoy the ruffles, petals, and pleats that have dominated the last few campaigns and was excited to finally find things that I've coveted on sale.

The Hailey skirt, worn here in size XS, was an unexpected last-minute addition to my shopping cart. It was originally about $50 and was discounted to $10. I really like the colors of the floral pattern and will surely get enough wears to justify the purchase.

And I thought I would have a few spontaneous giveaways over the next month since I conveniently (note the sarcasm) forgot my own one-year blogiversary last month. In recognition of all the support and advice that I've received over the last fourteen months, it's only fitting that I try to give back to the community that has helped me grow over the last year.

First up, this RVCA belt in size S-M that I bought for myself several months ago. This belt ran large so would fit someone who is normally a M-L best. Perfect for wearing on the hip.

OOTD & Ann Taylor October 2011 Lookbook

It's been a while since I've worn this pleated skirt out because I have this irrational fear of ruining my favorite pieces of clothing so I often 1) get a back up 2) store them in garment bags for aesthetic purposes only. But what good are clothes if you can't wear them?

And Ann Taylor's October new arrivals have officially gone on sale. I couldn't resist and ordered a few things earlier this week.
I have been in search of a scarf like the one shown below, I think I may have found the one!
The top on the left is on sale for only $14.50. I debated getting it but ultimately decided against it.
And fur vests are very on trend this season (and has been for the last little while); similar versions can be found at places like H&M for less but the Ann Taylor's version is not a bad option.
And my absolute favorite from this season: the Tie Neck Long Sleeve Blouse. Coincidentally, I also bought the tweed skirt shown on the right. I hope they work out for me because they sure look beautiful in photographs.

OOTD & H&M 20% Off Coupon

I rarely wear make up (minimal for work; begrudgingly done to avoid being mistaken for a child) but I do enjoy watching tutorials and bearing witness to magical transformations. I came across the blog of a circle lens and associated beauty products saleswoman/make up artist and was amazed at how drastic the changes between before and after are.

OOTD: When You Judge Another, You Do Not Define Them, You Define Yourself

When you judge another, you do not define them, you define yourself - Wayne Dyer

The top and shorts worn in this post were recent acquisitions. I had mentioned in passing that every new purchase was under scrutiny because of my Closet Crisis but these two safely made the cut. I see potential for both items when not worn together but I am loving these shorts and am breaking them out whenever possible.

And I couldn't help but get slightly agitated when I read comments like the one found on Ann Taylor's facebook page (this page attracts a lot of vitriol from people who are insensitive to the plight of women of a particular size). There is no "normal" when it comes to size/shape/general constitution and I find it offensive when women thrash other women on an issue as sensitive as size, as though we don't face enough pressure as we do from the other sex. sigh.

Extreme Alterations: Talbots Tweed Sheath Dress

Excuse the blurry nighttime pictures. Bf did the best he could with my D40 (looking to upgrade in the very near future; suggestions welcome!).

The dress worn here was originally a size 10 dress from Talbots that I asked an etsy artist to re-craft for me. She had to do A LOT of work to get it down to its current size and since the exchange was done by mail I didn't have the opportunity to try it on before she put on the finishing touches. I am not 100% happy with the result (it's still about a size big all around) but appreciate what she did for only $40 + shipping.

I made the mistake of not taking a picture of the dress "before" alterations but take my word for it: the change is drastic.

OOTD: Everything In Excess Is Opposed To Nature

Everything in excess is opposed to nature - Hippocrates

I have a bit of a (pussy bow tops) problem. I can't count on two hands exactly how many I have in my possession. I had enough good sense to send back the few that I ordered from ASOS last month but got sucked in again by H&M's bargain pricing.

I found this top for $9.95 (also available in this burned orange/coral color as well as in a perplexing print) at H&M and initially didn't think much of it (overflowing closet + redundant items = bane of my existence) but liked the balloon sleeves and light texture enough to take it with me to checkout.

New Boots For Fall

My closet (especially the shoe section) is near capacity so I've been a little more discriminating when it comes to shopping (perhaps the reason for why recent ASOS orders went back in their entirety). I have, however, reserved a spot on the roster for a pair of cognac riding boots. The search had come up empty until last week, when I spontaneously tried on this pair of boots at H&M for fun. I didn't expect to like them on me at all but they were surprisingly comfortable and bf voted a resounding yes. They were not quite the riding boots I had wanted but the color was the shade I was looking for and their lightness (this part is subjective) made walking around in them hassle-free.

I wore them all weekend long and they have proven to be comfortable for the first few hours. I think they could benefit from ball of foot padding which would certainly alleviate some of the stress the small heels put on my feet after several hours.

I got the boots in size US7/EU38 and with socks they fit perfectly. I am typically a size 6.5/7 in pumps, 7 in flats, and 7 in sneakers. The boots retail for $59.95 (sign up for H&M emails for 20% off one item - if you show store associates the coupon on your mobile device you can get away with multiple uses). My calves are pretty large proportionally (13-13.5 inches at the widest part depending on the level of exercise the day before) and these fit with some room to spare.
