Shoe Lust : Santana Renata Knee-High Boot in Espresso

November 04, 2011

Winter came early this year and caught me off-guard. I thought I would have a few more weeks to search for that elusive pair of perfect leather boots but with fresh snow on the ground I am ready to make a decision.

I ordered these Santana boots after learning they were waterproof and warm but they ended up being too tight on my athletic calves. I know that leather boots often stretch out and conform to your legs over time but there is no room in these boots for jeans at the moment. I am desperate though so I may end up keeping them and pray that they stretch out soon. (At the risk of swaying you to one side, the boots fit ok with thick tights and boot socks underneath so the fact that jeans can't be tucked into them doesn't faze me).

Some things I don't particularly like about this boot include the height (in my vision the boot would be half an inch taller but what's half an inch, right?) and the color (I thought I wanted brown but now think that black may be best).
What I like about this boot is that the footbed is soft and well cushioned. It also keeps my feet warm which is a huge plus.
I went up a whole size to 7.5 and ordered it in "wide." With boot socks and tights the fit is flawless (in the foot).

Other options I am currently entertaining right now are the Corso Como Richmond Boots, the Stuart Weitzman 50/50 Boot, and the Kelsi Dagger Scarlet Riding Boot.

I also recently ordered a pair of "splurge" boots similar to the Stuart Weitzman Upbeat Boot that I don't anticipate returning but those won't be worn in the snow or slush.

Have you found a pair of leather boots for the fall?

I have started a winter shortlist that is separate from SBL. This new list is more practical and for things that I don't "need" but will be nice to have in the winter. In particular, I am looking for a black coat, a pair of comfortable booties and a pair of waterproof leather boots with low-heel.
