Trends: Petals Petals Petals

June 08, 2011

Every once in a while I get caught up in the idea of something beautiful. Lately it's the word "petals." For no reason at all, as long as the item has something to the effect of "petals" in its name or description, I add it to my wish list immediately.

Big Petals:

I am crazy for this Moschino Silk Muslin Petal Dress. Perfectly creamy and perfectly lady-like. I think my mom always secretly wanted me to grow up to be a girl who wears this dress like a uniform (instead of the girl I ended up becoming, the one who comes home covered in dirt in her Sunday best). Big petals, however, are sometimes mistaken for fish scales, which are one of those things in nature people try to avoid bearing resemblance to. My Ann Taylor factory petal shell (imo) narrowly escapes that comparison.

The Ali Ro Sleeveless Scalloped Dress and the Sue Wong Scalloped Tulle Dress combine two of my favorite elements: scallops and petals. If it weren't for the fact that I have about five half sisters of this dress in my closet, it would be mine.
Delicate Petals:

Beautiful tiny petals adorn this summer-wedding-appropriate Short Petal Wedding Dresses by Theia. Rampant tiny petals cover another Theia gown. This Leifsdottir Strapless Raime Corset Dress has more strategic placement of petals in moderation as not to overwhelm the simplicity of the design. This Adrianna Papell Strapless Dress is a perfect date night dress (though I am sure the designer intended this for a red carpet appearance).

Petal Sleeves:
I have already sang praises about this Alice + Olivia Petal Sleeve Blouse and bought this Orange Style Petal Sleeve Jeweled Dress. Why am I still spellbound by the Gianni Bini Sissa Blouse?
Petal the Color:

Sometimes retails use the word "petal" to describe a certain shade of pale pink though the shade often differs.

An Herve Leger Cap-Sleeve Bandage Dress. This 3.1 Phillip Lim Draped Overlap Blazer. Perfect Michael Kors Washed-silk taffeta maxi skirt. An elegant Sue Wong Feather-Skirt Gown. Their common thread is simply that perfect shade of "petal" pink.

And there's petals for no reason. Like this Alice + Olivia Nicole Petal Peplum Dress.

Are you crazy for petals? If not, what currently tug at your heartstrings?
