ModCloth Misty Rose Dress / Darling Aimee Dress

March 03, 2011

I was going to do a post on my Ann Taylor tops but the ModCloth package arrived so I thought I'd write about this first.

I was rather optimistic about this Misty Rose Dress because of its pale pink color and the vintage edge.

Not too bad right?
 Wrong.
The bust on this XS was too tight on me.
And there's a mysterious pouch in the midsection.
And when I pretend to sit down, this results:
This dress is final sale so I have to figure out a way to make it work. Any ideas?

The dress is by British Brand "Darling" so it's not indicative of any other brands that ModCloth carries. I am pleased with the service, the order was placed exactly a week ago and it arrived today. The dress was well packaged and I took a chance on a final sale item so I only have myself to blame. sigh.

  2. Oh Elle, when will we ever learn with final sales?! I've been bitten by that bug one too many times to count.

How tight is the bust? A tailor could potentially let it out some. Maybe try adding a wide belt, to "flatten" the pouch and so when you sit down the wrinkles will be hidden? But then you won't be able to use the cool kangaroo pockets.

  3. Aww this was so pretty in the first photo!!! It's too bad that it looks awkward when you sit down.. the material makes that look so awkward.

  4. lol-- i like your pretending to sit down picture! the color is adorable. such ashame the bust area is too small. i hate that feeling espcially when i eat too much and the bust is too small and i feel like i can't breathe. i'm sure your tailor can help?

  5. I think it's brilliant Elle!...and I love that it has pockets!! I think Cee has the right idea to add a belt if you want to flatten out the pleating. The darting on the bust makes me think that your tailor will definitely be able to let it out a tad ;)

  6. Too bad that it didn't fit you properly. The color is lovely. I am sure you'll make it work. I am checking out the site and see if they have anything left.

  7. Eck, I don't like it. =0[ The color and the lace is undeniable cute but I don't like how square it makes you look. Maybe a belt can help? The pockets just need to sit lower because it hides your lovely figure. Maybe wear the dress as a top and just wear a skirt over it? Or perhaps a wide waisted belt to cover up the pockets?

  8. I would say give it to me...but I'm a size 2/4 :( boo, it's a cute style but the fit is definitely off on you, would putting a big belt help? or an oversized jacket so you use it as a skirt instead?

  9. Boo to pouches - why do companies add this in?? So unfortunate about the fit because the vintage touches are so lovely. I also wonder how this would look belted or slimmed with a blazer.

  10. I agree with Cee...try adding a belt. And I agree with Ping...lol! over the squatting picture! Hehe!

Try a different pair of tights and shoes...more nudish?

  14. I was going to add another suggestion but I read Miss addicted and that is such a brilliant idea! Take it to the tailor or just DIY and take out those insulting pocket/pouch!
