EH : Wendy's Asiago Ranch Chicken Club

February 11, 2011

At the risk of getting yelled at again by anonymous commentators commenters for eating junk and having a mother who didn't teach me how to cook, here's me giving Wendy's new Asiago Ranch Chicken Club a try.

Burgers without fries is like fish without water or Samson without Delilah. Wendy's has been promoting these Natural-Cut Fries with Sea Salt for months now but frankly I don't see a huge difference between this new version and the old one.
You can choose your own chicken patty - grilled, homestyle or spicy. When confronted with choices like these I always pick spicy.
Presentation's sort of poor. The Asiago cheese is rather flat and so is the bacon (to be fair though, I really don't like bacon at all)
All in all, this sandwich isn't really my cup of tea. I think I still like the spicy chicken sandwich or spicy chicken nuggets more.
There's a $1 off coupon for this burger now so if you want to try it, here's the link.

And I know someone saw the Pizza Hut box in the first picture...so here's what's on the inside. Large Super Supreme Pizza. Pizza Hut's running a promotion now - any pizza, any size at $10. Pretty good deal if you like bad pizza (like me).

Lastly, please don't say my mother failed me because she didn't teach me how to cook. I think she feels bad about that as is - I was spoiled rotten when I was a kid so I grew up eating junk. I would hate to see her sad because of some comment that was made here. Thank you for censoring those comments.

  3. I've never been a fan of Wendy's fries and I am disappointed to hear that their new fries aren't much better. Give me a good ole McDonald's crispy potato stick any day! Or better yet, a spicy curly fry from Arby's!

That IS some cheap pizza from the Hut - though my fave bad pizza place has got to be Papa Johns!

  4. OMG now I'm craving for fries! LOL! It's okay that your mom didn't teach you to cook, you can always learn. My mom didn't teach me a thing. I just read books and have recipe books. :)Please keep posting food pictures! I'm soo jealous of you! You can eat all the bad foods and still stay in shape. If I were to do that I'd gain so much weight. I'm forced to eat and cook healthy almost all the time. Hehehe! Have a lovely weekend!

  5. Anonymous commenters should really mind their own beeswax. I love your junk food posts. I also went with my friend to try the natural salt fries haha and couldn't tell much of a difference. They DID give us that coupon booklet though containing 10 coupons for free friends and frostys. The coupon booklet is only $1 for charity but they didn't charge us..not sure why because they SHOULD!

The sandwich looks so yummy to me right now, but I do love their value menu crispy chix sandwich so I probably wouldn't pay more for this. And why must you tempt me so? Pizza hut is my FAVORITE pizza (and wings) and I've already told you we don't have it around here....: ( : (

  6. Haha! My mom didn't teach me how to cook either. I'm still winging it =/

I actually like Wendy's new fries. It's thinner and I like the skin. It reminds me of Boardwalk fries (which are THE BEST), but not as good.

  10. Ahh I love Wendy's too - I'm not a fan of bacon either. I like the flavor but don't actually like eating it. I really like wendy's fries but I wonder if they are different in Canada - believe it or not a lot of fast food tastes different here!

  11. Ok, I am not going to comment anonymously, but Elle - please pick up a copy of the following books and read them:
    Fast Food Nation
    The Omnivore's Dilemma
    Food Inc.

Then reevaluate what you eat. I don't cook either, but I do not support the fast food industry. I'm a vegetarian (mostly for ethical reasons) but I still refuse to patronize fast food restaurant chains because I refuse to support an industry that abuses animals, the land, and local farmers.

  12. @littlenashua Kerry, I know exactly where you are coming from. I have watched a bunch of documentaries about fast food and the ramifications and I actually don't eat any meat on the bone or in a chunk (so only ground meat or nuggets) because I can't think about the original animal or else I couldn't keep it down. But the last time I cut out fast food from my diet I lost a lot of weight because I am such a picky eater and nothing much else appeals to me (except for chinese food but I am picky about that too). It's just really hard for me to find things I enjoy and I am hoping I'll outgrow this at some point. How did you first make the switch?

@curls-and-pearls I am exactly the same way about bacon - it doesn't do anything for me. I believe you about fast food tasting different in different countries - people have different palates and are accustomed to different foods.

@krisandkel haha sorry about making you hungry.

@lisa haha, a girl after my own heart. I love wendys chicken nuggets too!

@Lisa I have had in and out fries several times but I am not a big burger person so I've only had in and out burger once. the fries are amazing there though! I love it animal styled!

@Cee really? I can't really tell the difference between the old and the new. Your taste buds must be more sensitive and precise. :)

@PetiteAsianGirl well, I am sure it's a pretty girl perk. :) Sorry about Pizza Hut, I love those boneless wings too. I am a loyal customer and check in every wednesday for 50 cent wing day.

@April haha April, I am not exactly in shape. You, on the other hand, look fabulous and have great skin. Must be all the healthy food you eat!

@Lisa - respect the shoes haha, if it's fries I'll eat it.

@siwing it is, isn't it! the economy's tough.

@kileen I had to adjust the lighting on the pictures but they surprisingly didn't look too ugly today. :)

  13. Anonymous commenters (negative ones, that is) should really find something better to do with their lives... lol omg!! I'm not much of a fast food/junk food person, but I can totally relate to the mother-not-teaching-me-how-to-cook thing. LOL I wish I could cook some of the lovely Viet dishes my mom does..

  14. WOW that looks wonderful! And you just gave me THE worst cravings ever.
By the way, ignore those annoying comments. Seriously. The people who leave nasty comments shouldn't be a part of blogging! Little sods.

  15. @Elle

The first time I stopped eating meat was when I was in my first year out of college. I had a roommate who was a vegetarian and it was just easier that way so we could share meals and grocery costs. I also had a BF at the time who was a vegetarian, who was probably the first one to influence me.

I'm not that picky but I also never really ate fast food much. In college I ran XC and track and most of the girls on my team didn't eat much of anything, so that influenced me to eat more healthy things.

I started eating meat again for a year when I moved back home with my parents when I was in my early 20s, then when I got my own place I stopped completely and have been that way ever since.

The thing with me and meat is that I will eat it if it is organically grown, humanely raised and slaughtered, and not treated with hormones or antibiotics. So, local farms are a source I will use if I am craving it (which I rarely ever do now). I used to work with a woman whose husband owned a red deer farm and I was able to get cuts of meat from them. But now I just choose not to eat it because I have lost the taste for it.

I like vegetables and I actually feel sick if I eat too much crap food. I eat lots of Indian food as well as vegetarian stuff from Thai or Mexican places. We shop at Trader Joes (not sure if there are any in CT) and we eat a pretty varied diet.

  17. Fries...mmm...I could use some of that right now! Have you tried the fries at Shake Shack in the city? It's at the top of my list...something about them...so delicious. So So SO DELICIOUS!!! The burgers, shakes, and hot dogs are awesome too. (Real dogs welcome as well which is a big plus!)

  18. I love Wendy's spicy chicken sandwich too! Eh, not a big bacon fan on burgers, adds too much sodium for my taste. Do you have Chickfila where you live? They came out with a new spicy chicken sandwich that is hot, hot, hot. It would be awesome if you did a comparison, would like your views on it!

  19. LOL on this post bc I just tried that same sandwich from Wendy's on Friday! I actually really liked it - but mostly bc I LOVE bacon and Wendy's chicken fillets taste better than McDonald's and Burger King. Yes, I am well-versed in all fast food offerings :)
