Wear It Five Ways : Ann Taylor Polka Dot Cascading Ruffle Blouse

January 05, 2011

I made a major purchase recently so I am putting myself on a ban from casual browsing - there are simply too many temptations out there with retailers liquidating their leftover stock. I plan to be extra critical of my recent purchases too and make returns when necessary.

I bought this past season Ann Taylor black and white polka dot blouse from a fashionable blogger who is cleaning out her closet (items are all brand new too!). The sleeves fit really well (I am wearing an XSP here) and I wish AT would bring this back next Spring.

My only qualm about this? It's so sheer! You wouldn't have known from looking at the picture from AT.

I still love it though - I haven't seen anything from AT lately that rivals this.

I have been afraid to try darker colored blouses because I have a lot of dark colored bottoms.Turns out they don't look half bad and are relatively easy to style.

Have you tried anything new recently? :)

  1. I like how you style your clothes several ways! I always end up wearing the same top with the same bottom. So boring! Do you have a close up of the polka dot blouse? It's hard to see the pattern and the details on dark items in pictures. I usually wear a lot of black. This year, I'm trying to do a bit more color. My first toe in the water was nude-colored pumps. It's a big change for me since almost all my current shoes are black!

  2. Petite Mom - just added the close up! Sorry about that...I did mean to include it. :)

  3. i love this blouse on you! i bought something similar actually from H&M when i was vacationing in CA. it's also super sheer so i like seeing how you styled your shirt. thanks for all the ideas!

  4. I love that top!! I like that it is sheer! Gorgeous!!

My absolute favorite look is with the short skirt!! Sooo cute!

I was browsing ASOS thanks to you! So many of the sale items are unavailable in US 1's...so that was good for the wallet. :p

Done with all the exclamations now. :p

  5. That's such a pretty blouse! I love it paired with the red pencil skirt! Super classy:)

  6. It's a nice shirt. I have one similar to it. I like it best with the red pencil skirt.

  7. I remember seeing this top, it's sheer but I think it looks great with a black cami or something underneath. My fave outfit is the one that's featured in the detail shot and I think the one with the red pencil skirt looks fab too! =)

I've been trying out bolder pops of color with colorful scarves and accessories. I'm obsessed with double breasted items as of late and I'm in that menswear no-curves type of mood still.

  8. I adore that red skirt of yours :)

  9. my fave: paired w/the red skirt.

  10. Aubrey and Sophia and Annie - I love that skirt too - I wish there is a 000P so you all can join in on the fun too but AT sizing is unfortunately a little inflated. :(

Jess - I was going to say this shirt is something I can see you wearing - it's feminine without being overbearingly frilly.

TGB - yay, we are sort of like shirt twins. :)

Michelle - I think it's good that you didn't order too...ASOS leaves a lot to be desired...I have a few in transit too so am crossing my fingers that they sort of fit. I may end up returning them all but I feel bad returning merchandise...I don't know why.

Kileen - I can't wait to see you in it! You always have a fresh take on things so I am psyched!

  11. It looks amazing beneath that blazer. Very school boy prep, with a touch of fem!

  12. Ooh, my faves are #2 (love the blazer and shorts look with the blouse!), 1, and 5.
