Wear It Five Ways : H&M Divided Mauve Lace Skirt

December 01, 2010

I am so excited to share a cheap skirt with everyone today...because I saved a ton of money downgrading to the H&M version when I was on the cusp of ordering the J. Crew version (an even more similar version was seen on PAG). I also saw this skirt in black but I am guessing it was also available in other colors as well.

I love this skirt but above all I love that it's only $14.95. I was happy to have found the last size two in this color...the WIFW attempt is sort of blah because I can't seem to stray from pairing mauve with basic colors. The skirt is really cute though and if you are missing a lace skirt go visit an H&M with a Divided section.

The skirt in size 2 measures just under 12 inches across the waist with no stretch so it runs pretty true to size for H&M skirts. It's frankly sort of mediocre quality (not terrible for the price) but I didn't really expect incredible quality from H&M anyway.

The accompanying pieces are some of my favorites (the Theory Darlin Turn blazer in look 2, the LOFT ruffle front cardigan in look 3, the J. Crew Glitter sash in look 4 (which Cee also has and rocks), and the Theory Gabe B blazer in look 5).

p.s. Don't forget to enter my giveaway, which ends 12/6!

  11. This is a great alternative to the J.Crew one. And yes you're wearing your J.Crew sash in outfit #4!! I LOVE IT! You tied it so neatly and perfectly. Tutorial, Elle? :)

  14. I saw that and thought it was super pretty but I don't have an occasion to wear something like that. Out of your five ways I like it with the black tights the best...it makes it pop more and the entire outfit seems more holiday-spirited. You're so devoted with your WIFW : ) ... all the photoshopping of the background seems time consuming!

  16. I love #3, 4, 6 and 7! What a great deal for such a gorgeous and versatile skirt! I sooo wish H&M had an online store. The local one doesn't seem to have good selection but it's always jam-packed so trying things on / shopping is a complete chore.

  17. PAG - I shoot on a cream background and I am pretty tan so it's easy to photoshop out the background...and if you look closely I am not too worried about the details (maybe I should be). Takes about less than a minute for each picture in photoshop for it to come out like that. I couldn't imagine doing that if I shot on a crowded backdrop. :)

Ping and Sophia - do go find it, I am curious how you'll "interpret" the skirt since you two have such great but divergent styles.

Callandra - I am sure lots of petites would be more than happy to locate items for you (it's probably better for your wallet that you don't just walk in and browse and come out with so much stuff that you didn't want in the first place). H&M has been really bad for my wallet. :)

Cee - lol, I struggled with it for SO LONG. You definitely tie it better. I need that tutorial from you, missy!

Matt - thanks! I noticed that you ostensibly lack a ton of lace items, you should totally invest in some because it would look TERRIFIC on you. :)

  18. I saw that skirt at H&M and thought it was a great find, too! I like lace, but I can handle it in only limited doses...a full-on lace skirt intimidates me! (Actually, many uber-feminine clothes intimidate me - I tend to be minimal and streamlined...and kind of mannish, ha). But the skirt is a lovely piece for the holidays - it's festive but not garish. Kudos for making so many outfits from it! :)

  19. I like that sometimes you can find dupes at H&M and not a blaring rip off (sometimes a little tacky) over at Forever 21. That skirt is adorable, I really like it best with the 3/4 white sleeve shirt and it layered with another skirt.
Are you wearing your platform heels from AT?! They look cute!

  20. I do have a serious lack in the lace department actually!! Its not something I have consciously avoided though! I will definitely work on correcting that! :)

  21. Oh I love that skirt and all your outfits! So frilly and feminine and reasonably priced too... will definitely look for it the next time I go to H&M (maybe I'll actually find something I'm looking for in there for once!).
