Petite Fashion Challenge #4 : Holiday Party

December 02, 2010

The challenge:
Create a holiday party look using festive colours and/or holiday pieces without looking like a greeting card.  This could be your opportunity to dust off that reindeer sweater you might have collecting dust in the back of your closet and turn it into something chic...hmmm?

This month's challenge is hosted by the lovely Curls And Pearls.

I don't think I know anyone who owns as many useless cocktail dresses as I do and you'd think this challenge would be a cakewalk for me...sure, I can (sort of) incorporate vibrant and rich colors into my outfits but when it comes to a cohesively jovial look...I am beat.

Here I am, at 7:47 p.m. EST, hastily putting together the post...I guess this is the best that I can do, at least my background is festive! :)

I decided to build my outfit around a gold dress because I wore yellow to work this morning and decided to break out this dress that I have NEVER worn. I am putting it to good use at last.

Shoes: Franco Sarto Napoli Pumps
Coat: Nordstrom Junior Department (old)
Dress: Untagged, from a Taiwanese boutique
Bracelet: TJMaxx (similar here and here)

I have to say though, I can't wait to see what everyone else has come up with. I caught a glimpse of Stylepint's outfit and it is so elegant and beautiful. That is one outfit you wouldn't want to miss.

Here is a picture of my work outfit today (dress kept riding up and was really short so I kept a long jacket on for most of the work day when I was standing) and also the dress worn above without the jacket.

  9. Elle, I would love to own all your useless cocktail dresses lol. I always feel like I have nothing to wear for special occasions! I'm glad to see someone not wearing red in their outfit (red backgrounds don't count :P). This gold dress is perfect and I love the tulle skirt and matching pumps.

  15. I *LOVE* those shoes!! And super cute outfit! I definitely understand the urge to collect "useless cocktail dresses" (my theory is that if I enjoy them, they're not useless... even if at my current rate of wearing them to parties I have enough for several lifetimes! ;) ). That dress is fabulous as well! :)

  16. I love the metallic dress, though I wish I could see more of it without the jacket. It's lovely and it's festive! I always enjoy seeing your collection of dresses since I don't have very many, I just rotate the few that I own. Btw, great photoshopping with the background! =P

  19. I love gold dresses. This dress reminds me of a gold party dress that I saw in Filene's Basement back when I was back to school shopping in the summer of 1990. It was strapless with a fuller skirt, totally cute and it was on sale for $19.99. I wanted it so badly and mom wouldn't buy it for obvious reasons (what 14 year old needs a gold strapless party dress?)

I also love the bracelet and I love that you wore this with black tights. I tried to do black nylons with my dress but with silver shoes it wasn't working. On you this totally works. And I love the shoes!
