Happy Thanksgiving + Black Friday Plans

November 25, 2010

I am loving all the helpful suggestions that I have been getting through the Reader Appreciation Giveaway - though the bulk of the suggestion point to me needing to blur out my face less, I am still in the early stages of convincing the bf that there aren't nearly as many internet stalkers as he thinks there are.

But I have taken all the suggestions to heart and will be making some structural changes to the site in the coming weeks. I will also try to add more personal touches to the blog and do my best to incorporate more of my life into this blog - beyond fashion and my shopping hauls.

For the big Thanksgiving meal my family has opted to do a hot pot instead of the turkey, stuffing, cranberry sauce fare. My mom isn't the greatest cook in the world and the two times that she has attempted to cook a bird for this holiday, she botched both attempts so while I appreciate a good turkey meal I am quite happy with the hot pot (when the alternative is turkey with a raw center).

Since I didn't leave the house today I was in shorts and t-shirt all day, this outfit is from yesterday. I was wearing my new J. Crew skirt in size 12 (it's the Crewcuts Girls' microtwill pouf skirt, I got it in both spice chartreuse and vintage wisteria on sale for $22.99 each with free shipping), Theory Gabe B blazer in size 0, a yellow bralet from Marshall's, a black tank top in size S that I stole from my mom, and N.Y.L.A. black pumps in size 7.

I think I will stay home for Black Friday since I am in a funk but may eventually find it in myself to venture outside. I have found Vicky's guide to Black Friday sales very helpful so if anyone is planning to head out, I would print her post out to take with you when you go shopping.

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!

  1. Can't wait to see what kind of changes you're planning to make to your blog! :D Kileen's doing hot pot too. Gotta love that <3 Our Thanksgiving was in October and my family & I had dim sum.

Your outfit reminds me of a bumblebee and I mean that in the nicest way possible!! It's cute :D

  2. Super cute!! I love the pumps too, and the yellow is so great! I'm of no help on the face blurring, since I crop my entire face! But that's more about anonymity than other worries! Of course, if you want to blur your face for other worries, I think that's completely fair! Its your blog, and I certainly enjoy reading it already! And we will be sleeping in and avoiding the madness tomorrow! I hope you get to feeling better soon! :)

  3. hi,
ive been following your blog for a bit now.. its very helpful!
i was wondering how the size is for the crewcuts skirt. i'm deciding in between a 12 and 14.. i usually wear a 0 (approximately size 25 waist) but i kind of have a big butt. any input would be helpful! :)

  4. Jessy - lol, now that you mention it I totally see it. you have a good eye for things like this. :) I love dim sum but my parents insisted on cooking today. boo! :)

Matt - thank you, I don't know why I feel so yucky but hopefully it will get better soon. :)

Bicchiere - I think you should go for the 14, which is what I should've ordered. It's unbelievably short so I think the 14 in this style would be better for us. :) I can't speak for non-elastic crewcuts skirts but for this style the 14 would be more appropriate for adults. :)

  5. Happy Thanksgiving, Elle! Mmm I love hot pot. My mom cooked a mix of American and Chinese dishes tonight. I'm stuffed and ready to sleep it off ;)

I kind of agree with your bf... you never know who is out there. I hate to admit it, but I've Internet stalked people before and surprised at the amount of stuff I've found... but you should do things that you feel comfortable with and at your own pace. It is your blog after all!

  6. Can't wait to see what you pick up during black friday. Yum! Hot pot! That sounds better than Turkey!

  7. Happy Thanksgiving Elle! Your outfit is adorable and unexpected as usual! Hope you're feeling better soon!

  8. You're so creative with your outfits :)

  9. i love your outfit, its so chic!! the yellow also makes the outfit so cute and playful. i hope you had a happy thanksgiving.

  10. I totally thought this was a dress because it goes together so well! Good job - you totally rock this look!

We had hot pot yesterday too :)

  11. great outfit!
love the skirt, it's perfect for you!

  12. very cute outfit!! the theory blazer fits amazingly well on you. i wish there was a theory outlet store near me like i used to have when i lived in Austin. i don't really try on much theory these days unfortunately.

and hooray for hot pot!! i actually prefer hot pot over the traditional thanksgiving fixings as i'm not really a big fan of really heavy American food.

i hope you had a great holiday! hopefully you were able to sleep in, watch tv, and do some cyber shopping! honestly the lines were out the door in most stores by 10am! what recession... :)

  13. i love the black with the bright yellow peeping out! don't feel pressured to show your face :) internet stalkers are weirdos :/ i'm more worried about people finding my blog unprofessional during med school interviews xD i'll have to take it offline for a while or something

  14. I've always wanted to venture into kid clothing since other petite gals have found success in it. I always was curious in what kid size I am in...12 seems to be right since it fits you nicely.
I also understand about not wanting to show your face, I was intimidated with the internet as well lol. I like that you have included your head in the pictures because it does seem to balance the photos more. =0D

  15. It kinda looks like there are twin Elles holding hands! Lol... I had to run to the market and grabbed some stuff for hot pot too after seeing kileen's twitpic... it was so perfect for this chilly weather!

  16. Your outfit looks fantastic! Love the tights and pumps!
